Artist Travis G. Baker

While better known for his plays, the award winning One Blue Tarp and Hair Frenzy, both of which premiered at the Penobscot Theatre Company in Bangor, art has been a lifelong passion.  He grew up drawing and doodling and attended Savannah College of Art & Design for a few years before returning to Houston.  While at the University of Houston studying Theatre, he drew cartoons for the student paper and painted sets.  He would continue scenic painting in New York, with his work appearing on stage from Broadway to the Bowery.

Since moving to Maine with his wife, Holly, in 2004 he has done two nature murals at the Orono town pool and Fields Pond Audubon Nature Center as well as started a family, written some plays and books and stories, learned to play hockey and taught a lot of English classes.

The interest in birds came from Holly’s passion for our avian friends and his natural brushstroke making fine feathers.  His writing sensibilities come out in the composition of the subjects.  They each have a story to tell and possibly a warning to give.  They have recently taken roost at the Avian Haven Benefit Auction at the Rock & Art Shop in Bangor and Verve in Orono.
